Technology Angst

Cal Meacham writes about Teleportation Angst, or how people react identically to a technology that is serious, possibly dangerous, and still new and unfamiliar to most, whether it exists or not. He gives numerous examples of Sci-Fi stories on how teleportation could go awfully wrong, but he finishes on a humoristic prediction:

Based on the track record of sheer numbers of appearances in science fiction stories and novels, I'd bet that teleportation is statistically safer than automobile travel, especially calculated in passenger-miles. But you don't see people writing stories about the Sheer Horror an Awful Consequences of travel by cars.

My question with teleportation is will we have the equivalent of the answering machine on our home telepods? That is, when we're on vacation somewhere else in the Universe, will our visitors be routed where we are? Will we have SFS (Small Freight Service) to teleport small things to our friends on their Teleportable™?
