AOL is about to launch its own weblog platform, dubbed AOL Journals. Reports here and here (and here too). Still missing in the picture (or have I missed something?) are Microsoft and Apple, as well as Macromedia as an outsider. IMHO, this not a matter of if but when they'll follow suit (in the case of Apple, that would count as a good addition to an otherwise largely overpriced .Mac service).
Private joke: after a journey from Blogger to B2, I'm looking forward into seeing Tristan and his StandBlog jump ship to AOL Journals ;-).

Beuh, I wouldn't want a weblog that forces me to subscribe to AOL, have its brand all over my place, and which doesn't work with Safari (comments do not unfold).
That said, it's a perfectly logical move for any ISP ;-)

But I've got access to an AOL account that my company pays for. Through that account, I've become an AOL beta tester. It's certainly interesting to see the new developments in their technology and have a voice in the direction of their development.
But heck, the DHTML comments won't even unfold in the AOL browser (which is IE on my pc)! They've got quite a bit of work to do!
Sure, as I said it is plain obvious that they have to do it. And you are right about the beta status (heck, TypePad is not perfect either).
The small pun was just about being tagged by AOL on your personal site. So far all the AOL journals I have seen look just the same. I used to be an AOL customer, a long time ago, I know what it feels like (being trapped into their online fantasy).
