Critically acclaimed? Is it because English remains a foreign language to me or is this words association really weird? However I'm looking forward to reading what Tiger is all about (I'd love to come but I'm afraid I won't be able to this year again.) I bet Steve will joke about the competition and its next generation to come in, what, 2006?

"Critically acclaimed" is a perfectly common English term, but you'd see it most often applied to a movie, not an operating system.
Thanks for the explanation. I think my reaction comes from the fact that critical in French has almost always a negative meaning (like a matter of life and death), it's not far from being a faux ami.
And really, in this context, "critically acclaimed" is sales speak. Some marketing/publicity drone got told to write a teaser for the event and that's what they came up with.
Perhaps an unfortunate choice, though: quite often, "critically acclaimed" means "the movie critics loved it, nobody went to see it (not enough nudity and car chases)."
I start to get it, "acclamé par la critique", it's exactly what you wrote Phil :-).
